History

The Royal National Theatre, commonly known as the National Theatre, is one of the UK’s most prominent publicly funded theatres.  It was founded in 1963 and was based in the Old Vic Theatre until 1976 when it moved to the current building.

The venue plays host to a wide variety of productions from Shakespeare to international classic dramas and contemporary plays.

 

Visiting Information

The National Theatre is located on Upper Ground.  The theatre is equipped with three different auditoriums: the Olivier, the Dorfman, and the Lyttelton.
