History

The Soho Theatre Company was formed in 1969 by Verity Bargate and Fred Proud.  The company performed at a venue on Old Compton Street before quickly moving to the Soho Poly.

In 1990, the company moved around between venues before beginning to fall into decline.  The Soho Theatre Company spent two years based in the Cockpit Theatre from 1983-95 to revive itself and expand its Writers’ Development programme.

In 2000, the company moved into its current, purpose-built venue on Dean Street.
